5. The Empress Elisabeth of Austria, “Sissy”, Becomes severe ill in tuberculosis
Sissy become severe ill in tuberculosis (tbc) and was force to spend much time in Madeira and Corfu.
Sissy, who was a very well known liberal and independent person become interested in politics, as she grew mature and as
Queen-Empress of the Hungarian people.
Sissy helped her husband the Emperor Franz Josef to become King of Hungary in the year of 1867, after one historic compromise
with the Hungarian people, which Sissy loved and helped so much during the nationality conflict of those years.
With Sissy’s help the Hungarian people reached an equal footing with Austria. That strengthened the Hapsburg Empire and
monarchy as a whole.
