7. The assassination of the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, "Sissy"
Sissy lost her daughter, Sophie, in 1857; she also lost her favourite cousin, King Ludwig II of Bavaria on June 11, 1886.
(Her enemies declared him insane to overthrow his power and finally kill him).
Sissy’s brother-in-law, Emperor Maximilian of Mexico was executed in the city of Querétaro, Mexico, on June 19, 1867.
Her own son, Rudolph, commited suicide in the year 1889 and she found her own husband the Emperor Franz Josef, cheating
her with a lady named Katharina Schratt. All those tragedies with her family and with her husband, infinitely destroyed
Sissy.
During the last years of his life, Sissy was dressed in black and live far away from Vienna and the court and travel very
much to Italy and Greece.
In the afternoon of September 10, 1898 on the promenade of Lake Geneva, the sixty-year old Sissy was stabbed with a file by
the young anarchist, Luigi Lucheni who wanted became famous by killing some royalty people. She die short time later from
the wounds inflicted during this assassination attempt.
Sissy was buried in the imperial burial vault of the capital's Capuchin Church.

the Hofburg, the Hermes Villa in Vienna and the imperial villa in Bad Ischl.
